LONDON (EJP)--- London’s Mayor Ken Livingstone has launched the latest guide to Jewish London, featuring a range of cultural events and activities across the capital.
Produced in partnership with Jewish Culture UK, the guide includes exhibitions, talks, music and family events through the summer months and into early autumn.
Ken Livingstone, Mayor of London, said:"The London Jewish London Guide highlights the remarkable breadth of the contribution that London’s Jewish communities make to our capital’s cultural heritage. I hope Londoners will be encouraged to learn more about the Jewish community’s rich and diverse history."
Featured organisations include the London Jewish Cultural Centre, Ben Uri Gallery, The Jewish Museum, British Library, Spiro Ark Centre, the Spitz, University of London, Pleasance Theatre and West London Synagogue.
Events include activities linked to the European Day of Jewish Culture and Heritage in September, when the general public is welcomed into synagogues and has the chance to find out about the other Jewish heritage sites, through a programme of guided walks lead by Blue Badge Guides.
Diverse Jewish community
Nicky Gavron, London Deputy Mayor, said:"Jewish people have made an enormous contribution to London’s cultural and social life and in many more ways than people might imagine. What the guide shows is how diverse London Jewish community is and the influence it has had on so many strands of what makes London a great city."
Livingstone is backing other Jewish cultural events in London such as Simcha on the Square and the marking of the Jewish holiday of Chanukah at City Hall.
