BRUSSELS (EJP)----A delegation of 8 members of the European Parliament, on a visit to the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, has invited Palestinian MPs, including members of Hamas, to visit the EU assembly in Brussels next year.

The invitation was made by Kyriacos Triantaphyllides, a Cypriot MEP, member of the United Left Group, who heads the European Parliament delegation for relations with the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC), during talks with Ahmed Bahar, acting Speaker of the PLC and a Hamas member.
The European Union lists Hamas as a terrorist organisation and boycotts the Islamist group, which won parliamentary elections in 2006 and rules the Gaza Strip, because of its refusal to renounce violence and recognise the state of Israel.

"We don't care who they are as long as they are members of the Legislative Council," Triantaphyllides told Reuters news agency.
"We don't ask if they are members of Hamas or members of Fatah."
