NEW YORK (EJP)---The New York Post on Sunday offered Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who stays in the city to address the annual United Nations General Assembly,  a “welcome basket” with distinctively Jewish delicacies, stating that it hoped to "take the edge off his bloodthirsty desire to develop nuclear weapons and wipe Israel off the map."

The basket also contained US-made paraphernalia, including "I New York underwear" and a stick of deodorant "to keep the flies away," the newspaper reported.
Ahmadinejad also was given tickets to Jewish off-Broadway shows, and an assortment of Jewish staple products, including Gold’s Borscht, Manischewitz Gefilte Fish, H&H bagels, onion bialys and Zabar’s cream cheese.
But the Iranian president did not receive his gifts, as the US Secret Service prevented New York Post reporters from delivering the basket.
On Saturday, dozens of protesters marched outside Ahamdinejad’s Manhattan hotel, with one prancing around in a gigantic paper-mache head mocking the Iranian dictator.
“Keep Ahmadinejad out of New York!” some chanted, while others held signs outside the Midtown hotel.
Protesters say they are angry that the luxury Warwick hotel plays host to a man whose country has been criticized for its repressive treatment of its people and who has supported terrorist groups such as Hamas.
“It is outrageous that The Warwick would accommodate a terrorist regime in exchange for its illegitimate money, and not even admit it,” one protestor said.
The Holocaust-denying president — who claims the United States orchestrated the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks — is to stay until at least Wednesday, when he is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly.
