Following is a selection of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's provocative outbursts on Israel and the Jews:
"As the Imam said, Israel must be wiped off the map."
From a speech given on October 26 last year at a conference in Tehran on
the theme of "The World without Zionism". Ahmadinejad was reviving a statement
from Iran's revolutionary leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.
"You believe the Jews were oppressed, why should the Palestinian Muslims
have to pay the price?"
"Germany and Austria, come and give one, two or any number of your
provinces to the Zionist regime so they can create a country there... and the
problem will be solved at its root."
From an interview with Iranian state television's Arabic-language satellite channel, Al-Alam, on December 8. In the same interview Ahmadinejad
referred to Israel as a "tumour", and suggested that it should be relocated to
Europe.
"They have invented a myth that Jews were massacred and place this above
God, religions and the prophets."
"If somebody in their country questions God, nobody says anything, but if
somebody denies the myth of the massacre of Jews, the Zionist loudspeakers and
the governments in the pay of Zionism will start to scream."
From a speech on December 14, in which Ahmadinejad again suggested that
Israel be relocated to Europe or north America, proposing the frigid US state
of Alaska as one alternative.
"Logically, this fake regime cannot survive."
From a press conference in Tehran on April 24.
"Every German born is indebted to the arrogant and greedy Zionists."
"Sixty years after the war, why do the Palestinian people have to burn in
the crimes of Zionists under the pretext of the Second World War?"
"For 60 years they've been massacring Palestinians and destroying their
homes under the pretext that a certain number of Jews were killed during World
War II."
From a speech made on April 27 in the western Iranian town of Zanjan and
broadcast on state television.
"This regime will one day vanish."
A reference to Israel in a speech to students in the Indonesian capital
Jakarta on May 11.
Germany was the originator of the Nazi regime which murdered some six
million European Jews in World War II, and Austria was the homeland of its
founder, Adolf Hitler.
Most of the Jews who founded the state of Israel in the years after the war
were survivors of the Nazi Holocaust.
