MOSCOW (AFP)---Russo-Israeli author, director and screenwriter Efraim Sevela, a symbol of Russo-Jewish literature, has died aged 82 in Moscow, the Russian literary critic Leonid Katsis announced.
Born in 1928 in Belarus, Efraim Sevela, whose real name was Efim Drabkin, emigrated to Israel in 1971, and subsequently lived in the United States, London and Paris, before settling in Russia in 1991.
His books include "Farewell Israel!" and "Legends from Invalid Street".
Sevela, who Katsis told Echo of Moscow radio "symbolised what is called Russo-Jewish literature" also wrote screenplays and directed films, including "Noah's Ark" and "Chopin's Nocturne".
