JERUSALEM (EJP)---EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana, who is on a visit to Israel,  urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to commit to a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian  conflict.

"I would like to hear a speech in which there's a commitment of the government to the two-state solution, a commitment of the government on the question of settlements and a commitment to reinitiate relations with the Palestinians," Solana told journalists.
Netanyahu is due to outline his government's policies on the peace process at a speech at Ben Gurion University on Sunday.
"This is what we expect to hear and I am sure that we will hear something of that nature," said Solana, ahead of a meeting with Netanyahu later Thursday.
Solana, who is on a five-day Mideast trip, is also due to hold talks with Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas before visiting Lebanon and Egypt.
"A lot of important things are taking place," Solana told journalists in Jerusalem, citing US President Barack Obama's speech to the Muslim word in Cairo last week, the election result in Lebanon and the election in Iran.
Defense Minister Ehud Barak, who met with Solana, told him he hopes Prime Minister  Netanyahu's speech will enable the renewal of the political process.
The EU envoy also met with Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman.
