NEW YORK (EJP)---A Jewish American group fighting anti-Semitism in the world, applauded the US State Department report on Contemporary Global Anti-Semitism that documents the upsurge in anti-Semitism around the world.

The report, which was spearheaded by the new Office to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism headed by Special Envoy Gregg Rickman, highlights the proliferation of anti-Semitic themes such as conspiracy theories about Jewish control and the questioning of Jewish loyalty, as well as manifestations of anti-Zionism.

"We commend this Report in particular for the depth and precision with which it explains and defines how the expanding global scope of anti-Semitism is manifested today and its nexus with virulent demonization of Israel and of Zionism," Abraham H.Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), said.

"It documents how age-old anti-Semitism and the 'new' anti-Semitism around the world, be it in Belarus, Egypt, Iran or Venezuela," he added.

"Its publication provides an important opportunity for demarches by the US Secretary of State and for US ambassadors in foreign capitals to urge governments to take concrete action against the trends and findings contained in the report," ADL said.

"Its findings also underscore the need for more countries to develop monitoring standards and mechanisms to identify and respond to anti-Semitic incidents.  We hope that this call to action by the United States government will encourage countries to do more to monitor and combat anti-Semitism."
