BRUSSELS (EJP)---Javier Solana, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, condemned the recent demolitions of Palestinian houses in East Jerusalem and urged the Israeli authorities 'to end these discriminatory measures.'

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Solana said: "I am deeply concerned by the reports of recent demolitions of Palestinian houses located in East Jerusalem. Such actions further undermine the efforts of the international community to re-launch credible peace negotiations aimed at achieving a just and sustainable peace."

He added: "I urge the Israeli authorities to end these discriminatory measures. Everybody must avoid the risk of escalation in East Jerusalem."
